CHURCH PLANTING IN SEGOVIA, SPAIN

Segovia, Spain.Gabriel Diaz, Adventist Mission Spain.

Segovia is a Spanish city and municipality in the southern part of the autonomous community of Castilla y León, capital of the province of the same name. It is situated at the confluence of the rivers Eresma and Clamores, at the foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama. The old city and aqueduct of Segovia were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985.

The aqueduct is considered the most important work of Roman civil engineering in Spain, and is one of the most significant and best-preserved monuments of Ancient Rome on the Iberian Peninsula. Segovia, a city with a strong Catholic tradition, is 95 kilometres from Madrid and has a population of 155,000 inhabitants, a city with a strong Catholic tradition.

Despite being close to Madrid, until 2020, we had no Adventist presence in this city, but, according to the Eevangelism plans of the Spanish Adventist Union for the five-year period was to plant churches in the provincial capitals where we do not have a presence.

In 2020, we started out with a couple of missionaries who started began their work just at the beginning of the pandemic’s initial stages and the beginning of the state of alarm in Spain.  and With the current situation, all the projects and strategies could not be realisedfulfilled and,, finallyeventually, the missionary couple got a call and left our project.

In 2021, on the 10th of January, another missionary couple , Ivan Samuel and Delia, accepted the challenge of evangelism for in Segovia, Ivan Samuel and Delia.

Despite the restrictions for face-to-face meetings and home visits, they have been developing strategies to deliver the books, "Hope", to those interested in them. also tThanks, also, to social networks, they have managed to contact several people with who have expressed interest in the Bbible and to in knowing more about Jesus. Contacts have been made with young people who meet in sports areas and a football rally is being organised with the aim of gaining their trust and then consequently talking to them about the gospel.

In less than three months, they already have a group of 14 people who enthusiastically receive a bBible study every week, and they also meet, every Saturday, they meet in the missionaries' house to enjoy the programme of that special day., sSome are already giving offerings and some families are already giving their tithes;, it is quite a miracle that is happening in this city.

The missionary strategy is to live the experience of the apostolic church:, each home is a church., Wwhen there is no more space in one house, then they will meet in another, so that the group of believers is an active and participatory group, making each meeting place a revival centre, a centre of fellowship, and a mission centre.

With God's help, where there was no Adventist presence, this summer, we are going to have a beautiful baptismal ceremony that will mark the beginning of the Church in this place.
